Another free Roman history walk

Roman history walk by Jess Jephcott

Jess Jephcott, featured dressed as a Roman on today’s Daily Gazette, has offered to do another free tour of historic Colchester. The last one at the end of December was a great success. Don’t miss this chance to find out more about this remarkable town.

The walk will take place on Sunday 31 January from 11 – 1pm, meeting at the Balkerne Gate (by the Hole In the Wall pub).

Register your interest via the Facebook group or turn up on the day. No ticket required.

Is there another Jess Jephcott walk planned for tomorrow 28th Feb? If so where is the rendez-vous & what’s the start time please?

Yes, Jess is doing his walk tomorrow. Here are the details:

      Date: Sunday, 28 February 2010
      Time: 11:00 – 13:30
Location: Start at the Town Hall, Colchester

A FREE TOUR TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE ROMAN CIRCUS APPEAL.

Repeating our tour by the same name of 31st December 2009, we will explore Colchester’s Roman heritage sites, including the only Roman circus in Britain, the earliest Christian church in Britain, the most complete Roman gateway in Britain, one of Colchester’s two Roman theatre sites, etc. This guided tour will take around two and a half hours and alternates with the Roman Wall Walk; one or other being held on the last Sunday of each month at 11.00am. Stout shoes and clothing to suit the weather please. All welcome.

A group of us did the Roman Wall walk at the end of February ’11 and found Jess Jephcott’s guided tour very enjoyable and enlightening re the very rich heritage we have on offer in Colchester. We ended up at the Officers Club where Philip Crummie walked us around the dig taking place there – exciting stuff! I am very keen to hear the other tour around Colchester by Jess. Could you please confirm when these will take place in 2011? Do you have another website that is dedicated to these Sunday walks?

Many thanks Jess for sharing your time and knowledge – it is much appreciated.
