There are a number of fundraising activities underway on behalf of the appeal. Hamilton Primary School will be holding a non-uniform day on 21 January, and Littlegarth School and Colchester High school will both be holding fundraising activities next week.
Gallery Schomberg at 12 St John’s Street, Colchester, will run tombola for the appeal on Saturday, the last day of its exhibition and sale. They will also be serving hot Indian chai for the occasion together with home made almond cookies.
Are you organising a fundraising event or activity for the appeal? Do let us know and we’ll feature it on this website.

Congratulations and thank you to Littlegarth School for raising £1,000.
How about selling T shirts? Ones with Roman soldiers or charioteers would look great, or even one displaying the new poster. The print shop in Head street might be persuaded to do them at cost price in exchange for the publicity. You could tell them I recommended them. (Lexden History Group)
Some designs could be aimed specifically at children, and maybe cost less. Whereas adults’ ones could be top quality and cost a little bit more.
This would not be just aimed at making money, but for spreading the public’s awareness of the Roman Circus Appeal.
Good idea Jane. I was hoping to have had one available now using the poster image. I’m just waiting for the original artwork from the Gazette.
I’ll try it via Cafepress.co.uk first, as there are no set-up costs and no minimum runs, so we don’t have to sink any cash up-front in printing items that might not sell out.
We can add a few different designs too – perhaps including posters designed by the children, or some of the images that some of the schools create in their work on the Circus.
Cafepress lets you offer the design in a variety of sizes/colours, including children’s. And if t-shirts don’t sell well in this weather, we can put the image(s) on warmer clothes or other items like bumper stickers.
But the Print.com shop in Head Street is a good idea. We can see which items sell well via Cafepress.co.uk and then perhaps approach them with the best-seller.
Will announce the t-shirts here, on the email newsletter, and on the Facebook group as soon as they’re available.
Meanwhile, if anyone would like to contribute an image for a t-shirt, do email it to me at romancircus@fundraising.co.uk. Thank you.
Congratulations and thank you to Hamilton School who today raised over £300 for the appeal with their non-uniform day and collections at the gate.
