How children can get involved in the campaign

The campaign has received some very valuable support from children in and around Colchester, with some very effective fundraising going on. Quite a few children, parents and teachers have also wanted to find out more and get more involved.

So, with the aim of stimulating interest in our town’s rich heritage, we have created some classroom projects to help children to explore the history around them.

As part of the projects we are announcing two competitions for children. The first is to write a mini saga set during a day at the chariot races and the second is to design a circus beaker. The winning entries will be posted on this website and will receive a prize. Children can enter on their own or via their school.

The closing date for entries is 12 March 2010. Entries should be sent to: Colchester Archaeological Trust, 12 Lexden Rd, Colchester CO3 3NF. Don’t forget to include your name, address and age.

Find out more by downloading our information sheet for parents and teachers (PDF) and the school competitions leaflet (PDF).

We are also organising some children’s events in half-term, so we shall announce those soon.
